Andalucia.com - Juzcar
Dave Wood reports...The people of Júzcar, of whom there are at most 300, are a pretty laid back bunch. If they really wanted to they could vigorously contest the claim of Igualeja to be at the source of the río Genal, since a second tributary of the river rises here which is actually longer than that which runs from the Igualeja cave. But although they may scoff quietly at Igualeja's claim over a glass of mosto, nobody, as we have noted elsewhere (see Igualeja) is inclined too make too great a fuss about it, let alone fight a duel on Main Street.

History and LandscapeSituated in the Alto Genal and therefore in the region of the Ronda highland, this municipality extends over a narrow and long stretch of territory which goes from the limits of the Ronda municipality, near the Jarastepar peak (1.425 m.), up to the municipalities of Estepona and Benahavís. This long extension of ground makes its landscape very varied, including from the rocks of the Sierra del Oreganal to the north, up to the chestnuts and pines near the Sierra Bermeja, passing by the chestnuts mixed with pines and holm-oaks arround the town and the mountains of thickets and pasture land in the area of the Jardón hills (1.156 m.). The olive groves also occupy an important place in this municipality. By the road which surrounds the Riachuelo brook and from the opposite side to the town there is a beautiful aspect. Further ahead and on the same road, the panoramas over the Alto Genal are impressive.

SUR - Juzcar
Júzcar is situated in the Alto del Genal, which is in the Ronda Mountains region, extending from the Jarastepar peak, at 1,425 metres above sea level, to the municipalities of Estepona and Benahavís. The landscape is varied in this large municipality, from the rocky terrain of the northern Sierra del Oreganal to the pine and chestnut woods of the lower Sierra Bermeja mountain range. There are small mountains of pine and oak mixing with scrub land near the village itself, reaching from the Las Lomas to the El Cerro del Jardón peak, 1,156 metres high. For a good view over the entire area, one can go to the Riachuelo stream
